Born in
Bahrain & surrounded by music of different sorts, Eric always wanted to be part
of the music scene. In school, he was introduced to performing by former band
member Zilia Monteiro. Eric quickly developed his ability to sing and gradually
started to practice and be involved more musically when needed.
“Music is something that soothes the soul and brings comfort. Everybody loves it
as it really helps to get a point across… The rush that you get while
performing is truly unexplainable.”
Starting with the keyboard he felt restricted by simply ‘moving fingers’ on a keyboard. Moving on to guitar he quickly got bored and moved further on and found satisfaction in drumming.
“I get to beat around and move around, as I’m very fidgety, so I’m doing something that I would normally be doing.”
His musical stint started in a band called “Black Velvet” which was a band that played only one gig and broke up after the show. Eric moved on to form another band called "Metal Head". This band did not last and he was once again left with no way to pursue his dream of performing. A few years later Eric again got the chance to perform with a band named "Brotherly Love", and this went on for a couple of shows, then not happy with the way things were being handled he left and started “The NightShades”.
“With The NightShades there are no boundaries, as we can explore ourselves musically and experiment with different sounds and styles of music. We’re just a group of guys who are n’sync with each other, and love to make music together.”
Eric is currently doing his Hotel Management and Tourism course in The Gulf College of Hospitality and Tourism,Bahrain. He has worked a variety of jobs such as assistant music technician for various singers that have toured Bahrain like Craig David,etc...
Eric’s creativity is constantly being challenged by his will to out do what other drummers have done locally, and therefore loves watching and hearing other musicians play, blending in their drumming techniques with his, creating a unique sound that makes up The NightShades. He credits his interest and playing to the contemporary drummer of The Beatles, Ringo Starr.
“I love to watch and learn, that way you improve yourself and gain a wider knowledge of what you are doing. No one can say that they are experts at drumming for every time you see someone drum you learn something new. You don’t get bored, you simply get better.”
